  3. Introduction
  4. -----------
  5. Have you ever got fed up with having text files being opened with
  6. TeachText all the time, or files not opening because the Finder ™ can't
  7. find an application to open them ?  I always got a lot of files through the 
  8. Internet and got fed with them being opened with TeachText, so MacChange
  9. is the solution I came up with.
  10.  
  11. So, how do you use it ?
  12. --------------------
  13. Very simply.  Just open the files you want to change with MacChange.  It
  14. will show you the current creator and file type and then ask you for a new
  15. set.  Just type in a new 4 character code for each and then click OK. 
  16. The file will be updated to reflect the changes.

  18. Features
  19. --------
  20. • Supports all the required System 7 features such as Drag-and-drop
  21.         and AppleEvents, and 32-bit clean ( I think it is anyway !!  )

  23. • MacChange wiil automatically quit after converting files dropped onto
  24.         it from the Finder™
  25.  
  26. • Small!!  This application is only about 20k in size and uses about 80k of
  27.         memory. With many of todays applications being over 1M in size
  28.         I think MacChange does a pretty good job for all its 20K.

  30. • Accepts folders being dropped onto it so you can now change lots of
  31.     files at once.  It will change all the files in all subdirectories
  32.     as well
  33.  
  34. • Gives you the choice of resolving aliases if they have been dropped
  35.     onto MacChange.  It can take a while to resolve aliases, especially
  36.     if they are on a file server.  If you open files from inside MacChange
  37.     using the menus then the aliases are resolved automatically, one of
  38.     the beauties ( or horrors ) of System Software 7.0.

  40. Requirements
  41. ------------
  42. • System Software 7.0 or later.
  43. • Tested on a Mac Plus, SE and Powerbook (24-bit and 32-bit modes) all
  44.         with a variety of extensions and control panels without problem.

  47. Technical Stuff
  48. --------------
  49. • Written using THINK Pascal 4.0.1, amazing stuff since everyone reckons
  50.         that C is the way to go !!!
  51. • Doesn't actually open the files so there should be no problems with files
  52.     left open.

  59. 18/3/93    Just adjusted the memory use so it now uses about
  60.             2/3 what it used to.  Still version 2.0 but with a later date.
  61. 16/1/93        Version 2.0 completed.

  102. from the author.  Companies such as Enducorp cannot distribute this software
